Once a period is closed and synced, the last thing you want is a rule, a price update, or a stray edit quietly changing last quarter’s numbers. Locking freezes a transaction’s details, including its net gain or loss, so they remain unchanged regardless of future calculations.

What Locking Does

A locked transaction cannot be edited, deleted, re-priced, merged, or modified by automation rules and auto-apply. Its cost basis and gain/loss figures are frozen even when you recalculate gains and losses later. Locked transactions stay fully visible: you can still view, filter, export, and sync them. Locking protects the data, not your access to it.

Locking a Period

  1. On your Dashboard, filter for the period you are closing (for example, everything up to Dec 31).
  2. Select the transactions, either individually or with the select-all checkbox for the whole filtered set.
  3. Open the Manage menu and click Lock.
  4. A confirmation explains that locking finalizes the details, including net gain or loss. Click Lock to confirm.
Bulk locks run in the background for large selections, and every lock is recorded in the transaction history.

Unlocking

If you genuinely need to reopen a period, select the locked transactions and choose Unlock from the Manage menu. The confirmation warns that the details, including net gain or loss, become subject to change with future calculations again. Unlock deliberately: any recalculation after unlocking can change the figures you already reported.

Filtering by Lock Status

The transaction filters include a lock filter with Locked and Not Locked options, which makes it easy to confirm the whole period is protected, or to find stragglers that were imported after the close.

Where Locking Fits in a Period Close

  1. Import the final transactions and clear your Active Issues.
  2. Calculate gains and losses and sync the journals.
  3. Verify wallet balances as of the period end.
  4. Lock the period.
From then on, rules, price updates, and recalculations only affect the open period. Balance checks and reports still include locked transactions, so your history stays complete.
